Badgley Mischka Fall 2014

photo(66)Every fashionista dreams of heading to the Big Apple in September or February when FashionWeek is in full swing.  But Fashion Week isn’t just a show of style, it’s a crucial time for buyers of big companies like Bloomingdale’s and Bergdorf Goodman to get a peek of the new collection so they could get it into stores when it is actually Fall 2014.  It’s a business transaction in sorts but it has since become more than that.  Backstage, I saw how everything and everyone.  It was really amazing to be standing only inches away from Mark Badgley and James Mischka.  I was surprised how organized it was and how calm it all was. There was no screaming or running around, no one was panicking. It was very calm except for the hordes of accepted press squished into the tent, trying to get shots of the designers and a few celebrities that were hanging out.

While I was immensely excited to help with NYFW, I was not thrilled about the idea of waking up at 5am to head into the city in below freezing temperatures.  After much begging, my father drove me into the city and right to the tent. I had to be there at 7:15am and was there well before at 6:45am.

Get ready for a photo overload! All photos are taken by me. If you wish to use them, please give me credit for them or link it back to my blog.

BackstageIMG_0931Being so close to the dresses and being able to see them up close was something really amazing for me. I got to see them before any of the press or buyers so I felt a bit lucky. I didn’t dare touch them but I couldn’t keep my eyes off the details. They really pour their heart and soul into their creations.

I even got to bump into some celebs!:

photo 3(11)I watched as press conducted interviews and how calm Mark and James seemed to be even before such a big show.  Soon, it was 10am and everyone scurried out from behind stage and tried to get an available seat.  I’ve grown fond of the social media team at ICONIX so I had been helping them with some shots for their Instagram incase their photos didn’t come out any good.  Jessica took me with her to the media pit, which arguably has the best seat in the house–for photos. It’s right at the end of the runway where the models stop walking to pose. I really felt like a photographer in that pit but I will never forget what I heard from a grown man behind me.

He was yelling at another one to “Leave me alone, I don’t want to make friends.” but in such a mean tone, I couldn’t help but stare. I guess it really is cut-throat in the photography business.

The lights dimmed and the show started:

A black wool dress underneath a matching black wool coat, snakeskin print tights, and black booties make this a warm and fashionable choice on cool fall days.

Gold toned coat, jeweled top, black slacks, and black heels make this look appropriate for work and for a night out.

A simple drop-waist black dress. What isn’t there to love?

The peplum is still going strong–but with a rich twist.

One of my favorite dresses. While I am not a huge fan of leopard, I loved how it flowed around her body.
