End of an ICONIX Journey

For the past 5 months, I have been interning at ICONIX Brand Group. I can say that it has been the best experiences of my life.  I’ve learned so much and I honestly didn’t think I was going to be so sad to go.  At my time there, I was the Public Relations/Marketing/Social Media intern.  Never have I felt so useful or learned so much.

Like most internships it was unpaid but I had pretty much taken the semester off to do it for credit.  ICONIX owns brands such as Candie’s, Badgley Mischka, and London Fog.  It was great seeing all the different styles and how different each brand is from the other.  The people and my supervisors were kind and understanding. I know for sure this is a company I would love to work at once I graduate.

On my last day, I handed out Argentinean cookies filled with dulce de leche and coconut and thank you cards. I think I gave out around 11 thank you cards. I find writing thank you cards are the best thing you can do because it shows them that you really did appreciate everything.

I was flattered and broke into tears when they in turn gave me a thank you card, Crumb’s mini cupcakes, a gift card, and a gorgeous London Fog x Chris Benz coat.  I never expected anything in return. I had only given out sweets and my supervisors 2 small gifts because they had been so great.

So! Some tips!

1. Write a thank you letter after an interview and after you leave your internship.

2. Be sure to treat your internship like any other job.

3. Go out of your way to do things, don’t complain!

4. Don’t be afraid to ask questions. It may be a bit scary to approach a supervisor, but if they are a really good one they will answer any question you have.

5. Ask for a letter of recommendation at the end of your journey!

Have any of you had internships?  I found mine at InternQueen.com and got an interview right away. Make sure you have a kick-ass resume and a cover letter that is tailored to you. Most internships are unpaid (which suck) but you can work part-time for cash and intern part-time. Just try to INTERN!!

If you have any questions about my experience or internships in general, I don’t mind helping! I now hope that I will have more time to focus on beauty/lifestyle/fashion posts.

These thank you notes look familiar. I wonder what awesome Asian chick drove you to homegoods to buy these.
