Grammy’s 2013: Fashion

Award shows such as the Emmy’s, Oscar’s, and the Grammy’s mean red-hot red carpet fashion; but that doesn’t necessarily all of them are the best. Here are a few that I disliked and loved.

Adele in Valentino

I love that Adele left her usual black dress but..this dress did her no justice. While I like the embroidered lace look..the shape of the dress was too much for her. The bottom was too full, making her look a bit like Mary Poppins. The collar and the very much covered style of the dress aged her about 10 years. I would love to see Adele dress more her age and maybe she should just stick to her black dresses.

Rihanna in a custom Azzedine Alaïa

I la-la-love this dress on Rihanna. She usual reveals a lot of skin and I am glad that she decided to go a different route. The red compliments her skin and the hair long and down makes her look like a goddess. I love the way the dress drapes and drags behind her. She went simple in her accessories and made the dress the star. My favorite dress of the night.

Florence Welch in Givenchy

I cannot fathom what she thought when she slipped on this dress. Yes, emerald is the color of the year (and a gorgeous one at that) but head to toe emerald is enough to make my head spin. The dress itself was terrible–she looked like a lizard with those spikes coming out from her shoulders and looked as if she had a third nipple coming out as well. The shoes and accessories should have been black if anything, not emerald. The hair and makeup also did nothing. The whole look was a fail–she needs a new stylist if she had any at all.

Carrie Underwood in Roberto Cavalli

This dress was elegant and not over the top. The lace at the top and the fit of the dress itself accentuated her curves. I honestly cannot get enough of it. I love anything with a lace design in a black and skin color tone as I have a shirt just like this. The hair and necklace was also simple and pretty. It’s not WOW like Rihanna’s but I can’t stop staring at it. This dress compares nothing to the dress she used to sing at the Grammy’s really upstaged this one; technology and apparel really is amazing.

Jennifer Lopez in Anthony Vaccarello

I am all for a simple black dress but this dress did nothing for Jennifer. It looked as if she grabbed some of her bed sheets and draped it on. There was way too much leg shown and it was cut as if she had a bathing suit underneath and the asymmetrical sleeves were also strange. She showed leg on one side and arm on the other. The hair…the hair. There’s nothing for me to say about that. The shoes are great though but I wish she could have worn a nicer gown. Maybe next time, JLo!

Mika Newton

I honestly have no idea who Mika Newton is but I love this dress. I know a lot of people hated it but I love the soft innocent look of it all. While I could do without the white cotton balls attached to it, I adore the sheer top portion and sleeves and the small silver streaks. The details is what makes it cute, plus there had been much much worse. Her makeup is demure and her hair very simple; it’s a perfect spring look. I like it.

Who do you think stole the spotlight? Who do you think bombed it?I would love to here opinions!

What I snagged at the Prabal GurungxTarget Online Launch

I honestly don’t know what is wrong with me. I managed to fall asleep at 4am from excitement (and waiting up until 2:40am) for the collection to launch online. I had gone in knowing exactly what I wanted. I wanted the sleeveless blouse, the yellow skirt, and the black and white wedge. Well, I came out with two extra items.

I must admit that I am a shopaholic but I think my cheap side came out a little bit. I bought two dresses with no idea on how they fit. I am a size 14 in jeans and I am a C-Cup with a broad back, I know how difficult it can be to online shop. Thankfully, there is a target store only 5 minutes away so I can return anytime. BUT, instead of returning if it doesn’t fit; I’m going to sell it on Ebay. I hate how it’s triple if not quadruple the price but I would be stupid to not cash into it when I can. Plus, I am a college’s only fair.

What I snagged at Prabal GurungxTarget

Here are the items I managed to grab. I went to the Jason Wu launch last year in person and it was too much. There weren’t a lot of people BUT why get out of bed. I already was up late doing a paper so why not just wait for the online launch?

I purchased the wedges first; as they were online exclusives. I hope they are of good quality and as attractive on my feet. I then threw the sleeveless blouse and yellow skirt into my virtual cart. They all made a complete outfit, shown in one of the lookbooks. They are vaguely similar to the Jason Wu blouse and matching skirt I bought last year, but oh so different.

I spent an hour staring intently at my email confirmation, my heart doing flips but then I began looking at the dresses. I couldn’t help but put the short-sleeve dress into my cart. I love the inset of floral while the rest is black; it even looks as if it has a belt. Very cute. I have chubby arms so it having sleeves was the purchasing factor for me.

The flare dress was the last thing I purchased. I am a bit hesitant about this one. I don’t know how much it will stretch and if the zipper in the back will even zip. It’s unnerving but it will be a great inspiration to start working out!

When I receive the items, I will model them and pair them with my own clothing items as well as write a few reviews on the item look, feel, versatility, and quality.

Did any of you snag any items? What do you feel about the collection?

TargetxPrabal Gurung Collaboration

Well, I can say that I am totally exhausted. All that waiting and trembling really drains your energy but I am delighted to say that I managed to score the 3 items I wanted (and know I will wear). It’s just like last year when I scored Jason Wu’s collab. I got a skirt, a blouse, and wedges. I will post more up about it with photos tomorrow.

All I have to say that it is crazy. God Bless those people in charge of the website; they have a lot on their hands!

Beau Review: Lancome’s Rouge In Love

Lipsticks and I have a complicated relationship; I hate them one day and love them the next. I was never the type of girl to smear on some red lipstick and strut right on out of my door. On the contrary, I would be the girl who barely went out without any makeup, just a swipe of eyeliner would do. Well, let me tell you, I am no longer a lipstick virgin.

The lucky one? Lancome’s Rouge In Love. Now, all my friends know I have a massive girl crush on Emma Watson due to Harry Potter. When I heard she was the new ambassadress for Lancome I knew I had to try it.

I confidently stomped right into Nordstrom and asked for the best red for my skin. It didn’t go so well; my mom ended up telling me looked like I some cheap hooker; that was a blast to my ego. I decided to go with something not as vivacious.

My pick was Fiery Attitude (319N). The color is spot on with the description, a deep berry wine. It’s smooth and creamy but after a while I find my lips dry. I already suffer from extremely dry everything, you name it: lips, hair, skin..its difficult. I found it to be less so when added a bit of lip gloss to it (clear or a rose pink).

I loved it so much I decided to buy another shade, this time, a bit more playful. I snagged Midnight Rose (377N). Both of these are for nights out which is exactly what I use it for. I find that you need to prepare your face: primer, concealer, foundation, mascara, lip scrub, lip balm, etc. You need to make sure your face is the perfect canvas as well as your lips. If your lips are dried and cracked you will most definitely see it, especially with these colors.

‘Rouge In Love’ Midnight Rose & Fiery Attitude

Pros: Creamy formula, Pigmented hues, Long-lasting
Cons: Drying

These will be a staple in any ladies’ beauty collection, you just need to find which one is for you. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

My cousin & I (I’m wearing Fiery Attitude)

Outfit of the Day: Out to Dinner

I thought I would look casual to go out as it was rather cold out. I wanted to tone down the toughness of the leather I was wearing that day. I had a Faux leather Jacket from Forever 21+,a Faux leather satchel from Topshop (that I no longer have :(), and Silk goat leather boots from Vince Camuto. I added a little playfulness with the polka dot shirt I purchased from Gap.

As for lipstick, I’m wearing my favorite shade from Lancome’s Rouge In Love line. I am sucker for Emma Watson, so when I heard she was producing this line with Lancome, I ran to my nearest Nordstrom. It’s Fiery Attitude; its a deep berry and very long lasting.

I do wish I had added a cute necklace but I was in a rush and ended up covering my neck with a thick white snood. What I love about the Vince Camuto boots that you can’t see here is the heels.

I might snag another pair if I can!

I am going to try to do more photos of myself as well as photos of trips at the city when the weather warms up; unfortunately another storm is on it’s way!

Another Charming Charlie Haul+BaubleBar

I must admit it– I am a shopaholic. I don’t know what it is..I think it is the excitement of having new to add to your collection that makes it so intoxicating.

I decided to get more jewelry because you know you can never have too much jewelry. Spring is fast approaching so I wanted to get more color. I don’t really have many accessories because I feel like my style is shifting.

Special Occasion Pearls,  $15.
Small Bubbles Set, $13

Band with Key Lock Ring,$6
Enamel Flower, $8

Single Rolo Strand, $27

This is my haul. I did purchase a cute earring set with bows, flowers, and the Eiffel Tower BUT with my lock I lost one of the flower earrings at school :(.

I thought the pearls would be a great necklace to have. It is a classic staple and you could wear it up or down. It will add a sophisticated touch to any outfit. The Bubble Set is a peach color and I recently wore it with a V-Neck Puff sleeved Striped shirt. It made my outfit look very dressy despite it not being ceramic. I even saw a similar necklace at J Crew for 3 times the price!

The ring is adorable. I love how it has a little key hanging from it. It’s a perfect thing to wear on Valentine’s day. It’s tiny and you could stack other rings on top of it.

I just love color and why not orange? The earrings will be a great way to incorporate color into my outfit subtly. I like adding color in the form of accessories and not having to wear a neon green shirt to get my point across.

That’s all for my Charming Charlie haul now onto BaubleBar.

I only purchased one item from BaubleBar but it’s amazing quality and it’s a staple I think I will come to wear a lot. I fell in love with BaubleBar while interning for Quincy. I believe they partnered up once so that was exciting.

This gold necklace can be worn as a collar as well. When it arrived in the mail, it was in the cutest green and blue box. I opened the box to find this adorable little pouch, when I picked it up I was surprised at how heavy the necklace was. It’s very, VERY heavy; just the thought of it makes my neck ache a little but I won’t let that stop me from wearing it!

I most definetly recommend BaubleBar. They have amazing jewelry at amazing quality. They also have something called The Vault. They are points you can use to deduct a few dollars from your total. I think I will have to keep my eye on my bank account as I am very tempted to purchase a bracelet from them!

Back to School

Well, I am back in University and man..I am already stressed! I have two days of school: Tuesday and Thursday BUT they are both from 8:30am-8:00pm. It’s exhausting and it’s hard to get 4 classes of homework done in one day.

Another update is Quincy closed down. It was the internship I was interning for and I can’t help but be really sad. I hate when businesses close down but everything happens for a reason.

Later tonight or tomorrow I will put up my makeup haul as well as my shopping haul from several stores!

Exciting times ahead, lots of work to do.

Nail Care Products

We paint, we bite, we use them a lot. Our nails need a little help now and then. They become brittle and break easily much to our dismay, so how can we stop this?

One thing that is best to do is give your nail a break in between nail polishes. Each time you swipe on that nail polish remover it weakens your nail. It strips your nail of nutrients and dries it out. While you nail has nail polish on it, it is lacking the oxygen and sunlight it needs, which also weakens it.

There are some great items on the market from creams to special oils.

Nail and Cuticle Care

The best, in my opinion, is Avoplex by OPI. It leaves the nails shining, healthy and strong after a week of straight use. Hangnails stopped appearing and the cuticles were as healthy as can be!

There are many different products and the best way to find which works for you is by actually trying and comparing them.

How to Lessen the Appearence of Dark Circles

Dark circles are pesky, unsightly, and difficult to get rid of. There are a number of reasons that you may have dark circles; the main reasons are heredity, lack of sleep, swelling of blood vessels, and vitamin deficiency. There are products on the market designed to help lessen the appearance, we have made a list to help you decide which is the best for you as well as something you can do to help.

1. Get more sleep

Sleep is the best way to relax and let your body rejuvenate itself. An average adult needs about 7-9 hours of sleep, even more so if you are a high school or college student.

2. Eat well and take vitamins

Your body tells you when something is wrong and dark circles are one of them. Make sure your body is getting all the nutrients and vitamins for it to keep looking healthy and young.

3. Cosmetics

If you are like me and all else fails, it may be heredity and sadly there isn’t much you can do but try to cover it up. There are creams and concealers that claim to help.

My Picks:

Best Concealers

Olive Oil & It’s Multitude of Uses

Things that have more than one use are great as they are cost efficient. One of the best we’ve heard? Olive oil. It is delicious in our salads and drizzled on different dishes but it can also be used in your beauty routine!

1. Makeup Remover

We’ve given this a try and we were delighted at the results. You dab a little extra virgin olive oil onto a cotton ball or cotton pad and wipe away that make up. It comes off easily and it leaves you skin soft and supple. It is also much more cost efficient and no plastic bottles!

2. Untangle Tangled Chains

You pull out one of your gold necklaces to put on for a dinner party and you find it is a tangled mess, even the mere sight of it is enough to make you give up. Put a drop of olive oil on it to lubricate it and make it much easier to untangle.

3. Moisturizer

Olive oil is amazingly delicate and doesn’t clog up your pores as you would think. Put some on your skin and rub in. A little goes a long way and you will notice a difference right away.

4. Shaving

Olive oil is slick allowing the blades to glide right over your skin, effectively taking away those pesky little hairs without nicking yourself. You could also put some olive oil on right after as a moisturizer.

5. Control Frizz

Comb some olive oil through your hair to avoid fly-aways and static. It’s great for those really humid days or the especially drying winter days.
