Statement Earrings

statement earringsI adore a good statement earring.  Sure, statement necklaces are cool but sometimes you don’t want your neck area to look too busy.  I don’t like heavy earrings but earrings don’t have to be huge or heavy to be considered statements. I’ve gathered 3 of my favorite statement earrings–including the one I am wearing!

*This post has not been sponsored and I’ve not received compensation. I merely am writing about my experience. Enjoy!

To get ready for a wedding, I set an appointment at The Bar at BaubleBar to get some classy baubles to wear for the occasion. If you haven’t heard of BaubleBar then I suggest you check it out because they have some great accessories! They aren’t dirt cheap like Charming Charlie or Forever 21 but you do get a great, trendy piece that you can’t beat.

Oxblood Love

photo(55)It took everything in me not to snatch this out of the gift wrap and use it myself.  I purchased this beautiful genuine leather wallet for my mothers’ big 5-0 milestone.  I had originally set my sights on the black one but this one happened to match my nails perfectly as a sales associate pointed out as I held it.  This color reminded me of the big fall color of last year: oxblood.  I don’t know exactly what color this is but it comes very close to it.  Read More →

Read Your Books and Wear Them Too

IMG_0341I can’t go anywhere without a good book stowed in my bag.  At times, I wish I could show my appreciation of a good book by showing the world.  I didn’t think there would be a way until I found Tori’s store on Etsy.  I stared in awe at her original works of art based on literary novels such as Pride and Prejudice and Jane Eyre.

Back to School Fashion Series: Part 3: Scarves

Back to School Scarves
Hello Spices! I’m sorry for the long delay as I am currently mentally trying to get ready for university.  Textbooks are just so darn expensive! This is part 3 out of 4.  I know many might be back in school already but for the east coast, we still have a good week left.  We are onto scarves!

Summer 2013 Trends

Summer Trends 2013

Summer is finally among us! With this hot weather new fashion choices and trends are available to us.  Upon researching, some of the top trends for this summer are: Bold Stripes, Overalls, Midi Skirts, Lucite, Leather, and Mixed Prints.

I absolutely love midi skirts as most of the skirts in my closet are in fact midi’s.  I find that they are modest and airy.  You don’t have to wear mini’s to get the same breeze.  I also find that I like to be a little more covered as I am considered plus size.  I will all do you a favor and try not to flash you in short skirts.

Summer just screams stripes.  Stripes are nautical and very summery.  Stripes are always thin but I am loving this bold stripe.  Bold stripes are more flattering than their thinner counterparts, plus it’s a great way to be adventurous and bold without stepping out of your comfort zone.  Stripes are always in trends and will continue to be so.

Lucite is very modern and cool.  It reminds me of the matrix or just very nice, modern decor.  I love how they are incorporating it into our wardrobe and adding it to shoes or jewelry.  It adds a great amount of interest to any outfit and I hope to rock it this summer.

Mixed prints have been something that I’ve always wanted to do.  This summer the trick is to pair different sized prints with one another so that it looks intentional.  I’ve found that it’s a bit difficult to do.  You might end up like a clown. I think I will take a pass on this trend and pair my prints with a basic.

Mixed Prints Outfit

I’m a 90s baby, so I vividly remember wearing overalls and even have a 2nd grade photograph with me wearing some.  I shudder just looking at them.  Overalls are not flattering and are not visually appealing.  I can’t believe these are back, I just want to burn all of them.  They are only okay to wear if you are painting or doing some dirty work.  I also find them incredibly annoying when you have to go to the bathroom. Enough said. Take them back.

Leather in the summer? I don’t know if I want to fry.  Yes, I love leather for winter, fall, and sometimes in the spring but in the summer?  I don’t think I want to fry in 90-100 degree weather in the name of fashion.  Maybe a leather bracelet is a great way to incorporate it but never a leather jacket, leather skirt, or pant.

I tried to make outfits to show how you can style them. I just couldn’t bring myself to make one for overalls. Be gone! What do you think of these trends?

Jewels- DIY Accessories!

Jewelry and accessories excite me to no end.  They can make any outfit pop or completely change the vibe.  As a fashion major, one of the requirements is to do a studio art class.  They are drawing, painting, ceramics, photography, etc.  I decided I am going to take a jewelry-making class.  I’ve never been the artistic one and it usually makes me nervous to dive into something completely foreign.

I tried to register for it but it filled up so I am going to have to take it in the spring semester.  I decided I would practice so I went to the local Micheal’s and purchased a jewelry kit and a set of tools.  I’m having a blast, let me tell you! It’s not as easy as it looks; all the pieces are really teeny tiny and it takes a lot of patience and hunching over.

I’ve completed the earrings but moved on to the more difficult necklaces.

The tiny beads will make the chain to go around the neck. Very labor intensive!

If you like the beads and the earrings then here is the set you should purchase. It was $16 and has an instruction booklet. I think it’s great for beginners and after I start understanding everything I hope I can purchase beads and wires and make my own jewelry! But for now I feel proud looking at my completed earrings!

What do you do for fun? Do you make jewelry?I would love to hear about it!
