Sunday was general admission and we were excited to see what it had in store for us. This was my first time at the International Makeup Trade Show so I did not know what to expect.
Seasons come and seasons go, but we never seem to want to let go of that bronzer (keep that tan going!). Yes, I’m going to list some cliche must haves but damn..they are must-haves.
Hello Spices! I hope your school year has started off well. I thought it would be fun for you all to catch a glimpse of what kind of classes I have to take and maybe, who knows, you would like to take something similar in your own university if it offers it!
Disclaimer: I am in no way sponsoring Sephora, Too Faced, Godiva, or Baublebar. I am simply recounting the event for your enjoyment.
Hello Spice Girls & Guys! It’s been a busy and hectic week for me as I’ve been interning, running around the city in 97+ degree weather and planning outfits for events left and right. I received an email from Sephora as all VIBs (Very Important Beauty Insiders) do and it was for an event happening on July 18th. I rushed to the phone and reserved my spot for my cousin and I.
The weather yesterday was brutal with real feel temperatures of 100+. So needless to say, I am looking less than cute with sweat pouring down my face and my chunky arms out for the world to see. It’s ok though, I survived.
My first thought was how great the glam bag was. I think it’s really cute and will make a great cosmetic bag or pencil case. I love the colors and the design, it’s very cute.
Zoya Nail Polish in Gie Gie: As a nail polish addict, this was the product I was most looking forward to receiving. I was silently praying to get the blue or pink one and I got it! I think most of my nail polish collection is blue so I think it’s a good thing that I got this. It’s a really soft pink and I love the Zoya brand. It doesn’t have that strong smell of nail polish. The only problem is sometimes I think the formula is too sticky and it’s a little messy but I think it’s because I’m more used to liquidy polishes like Essie. I love all their colors and the brand anyways. Did I mention this was full-size?Amazing!
Anastasia Brow Gel: As a girl who threads her eyebrows, I find it completely transforms how my face looks. I was thrilled to see this in my bag as I always like to keep my eyebrows tidy. I just can’t get over how this is full-size as well. I’ve used Anastasia’s Brow Pencil and I can’t wait to replace that with this gel. It seems more reliable as I could never sharpen that pencil and ended up with a wasted product.
Mirabella Lipstick in Bellarina: Another full-size sample! I don’t think I can get over all of this full sized madness! I was ecstatic to get some lipstick because I’ve been wanting to test out some lipstick that I could wear in the summer. This is a very sheer color, so sheer it just came out as shimmer on my hand. I was a bit disappointed at the color but maybe I can layer this lipstick on top of another. It was creamy and I know it will probably be used several times.
Yaby Concealer Refill: This would be great…if it wasn’t some random little sample. This was one of the ones I didn’t like. I am willing to try it but it is so tiny, I think I will end up losing it before I use it. I do need concealer badly, but where will I put this? No idea. Not worth my ten bucks.
Pacifica Roll-On Perfume: I don’t wear perfume so I wasn’t really excited about this one. I rolled some onto my wrists and was instantly nauseous. It was way too strong and floral for my tastes. I will most definitely be giving this away to my cousins, who may appreciate it and use it more than me. This was a no go for me.
For my first month, I can only say I was uber excited about 3/5 of the items and I will continue my subscription to see what the month of June brings! For all the full-size items, I may even decide if I want to keep Birchbox or not.
Do you subscribe to Ipsy? What are your thoughts and favorite items you’ve gotten from them?
I know, I know..I haven’t updated in a while but I’m nearing my end of the semester and this is my last week of classes before Finals so this will probably be my only post for the next two weeks. I’ve been wanting to write this but I had to put it on the back burner.
On the bright side, I am now a VIB (Very Important Beauty Insider) at Sephora, which means I spent $350 in a calender year. Yes, even I cringed a little and wondered out loud what I even bought!
In this haul, I bought several things, take a look:
TokyoMilk Dark Lip Elixir #36: I only bought this item as I needed to get to the free shipping total and the amount that would give me the VIB status. I didn’t think I would obsess over it and force every one of my friends to smell it. The description was enough to reel me in but the scent was ah-may-zing. I purchased Salted Caramel. If you’ve ever tried the Caramel Frappe’s from McDonald’s then it smells and I would think tastes exactly like it! It leaves my lips soft and gives off a wonderful aroma for the while that your olfactory senses allows it to.
Tarte EmphasEYES in NUDE: Everyone that knows me can see that I have terrible dark circles under my eyes thanks to a mixture of heredity and a bad habit of staying up too late. I wear concealer, foundation, and the works but I find myself looking exhausted and tired after a long night of cramming or procrastinating (I would like to a say a combination of both). Black liner is pretty and I love it but it does nothing for my dark circles, if anything, it showcases them so to combat the problem I purchased this liner. It’s surprisingly pigmented and you do not need to press hard to get the color to glide on. You glide some on your inner rim and the sides and you look much more awake. It is also great to give your eyebrows some definition and arch if you put some underneath. Love it! A little steep in the price, but from what I see it is well worth it!
Here, I offered a small swatch. I didn’t need to press too hard to get it.
Per-Fekt Brow Perfection Gel in Expresso: I have my eyebrows threaded every two weeks if I have time, if not sometimes I let them get a little unruly, to my despise. To keep my just threaded or reasonable look I use my eyebrow brush to brush the hairs back neatly. I want to fake it as long as I can so that is why I purchase this. It will not only hold the hairs in place but it will let me give them a bolder look without having to reach for an eyebrow pencil. As a Middle Eastern girl, eyebrows give my face a whole different look. It really does matter. The brush is just like a mascara brush and allows you to control just how much you want. It also comes in different shades. Once again, the price is a little steep but I see a little going a long way so once again it is a great product to invest in!
butter LONDON “Macbeth”: I’ve only heard good things about this brand. I’ve always been an Essie or OPI girl thanks to my mother’s great discounts but I wanted to give this brand a shot. Believe me, the $15 price tag nearly killed me as I clicked the purchase button but now while it still hurts, I adore the brand and the colors. The colors are unlike anything I’ve ever seen and you don’t get that strong formaldehyde scent with it either. It goes on smoothly and uniformly. I was unable to take a picture so I will supply you with 2 I found on Polyvore. I hope to buy a few more as treats in the future. For $15, it’s a lot buttt..the color is so pretty!
This was my Sephora Beauty Haul! I have not yet tried the Rose Mask Sample but once I do I will most definitely do a review on it! I’ve always got a few more post ideas lined up but I will get working on them once finals finally end!
This is my first month receiving Birchbox and once I got my email yesterday confirming that it had been shipped, I was as giddy as a little kid on Christmas. I love receiving things in the mail, It feels like a gift..even though I paid for it. I received my Birchbox so quickly that I honestly wasn’t expecting it. I do live near New York so that could be why it was so swift, but it was still unexpected.
The items I’m most excited about are the nail polish (it changes color in the sun!), the eye cream as I have terrible dark circles and some lines, and the shaving cream (just in time for summer!). I am not too blown away by the tea as I don’t like hot tea but I will be sure to let my parents try it and as for the peppermint shampoo, I’ll give it a shot. You never know unless you try! I will try to update you all on how the products work once I use them, but for now, I wanted to unpack and show you all the goodies! We will see how it is and if Birchbox is an investment, but so far I am liking what I see.
I love the packaging…I might just keep the box with the pink Birchbox logo on it. It’s sturdy and I am sure I can store something in it. I love how quickly the box arrived, how the items are perfect for the spring months, and the unexpected items that came in it. It’s like unwrapping a gift every month, you are unsure of what’s going to be inside. This is one of the things I love about Birchbox as well as the fact that they are samples. I adore samples. It allows me to experience items I would have not necessarily known about if I had not been introduced. I find that samples are the best way to find that perfect item for yourself, there is no other way. You need to try it and if you find you are unable to part with it, you can go right ahead and buy the full-size product. It’s really a win-win for the consumer and the company. Birchbox is doing it right. I am going to use these items over the course of the next few days and I will fill you all in and how they did!
Do you get Birchbox every month? What are your thoughts on it?
