Fourth of July Fashion

Fireworks

Hello Spice Girls & Guys!

I have a love-hate relationship with July 4th.  I love the energy, the patriotism, and the fireworks.  I hate the traffic, the closed roads, traffic, and the fashion.

I am all for showing off the colors but sometimes I cringe when I see some people leave their house in red pants, an American flag pasted on a t-shirt, and a bunch of American flag accessories.  I don’t mind if you wear a flag..as long as you do it in a subtle way.

Here are a few outfits I put together for a cute fourth of July!

There are so many ways to dress up and have a great July 4th!  What are you going to do on the 4th of July? Do you have your outfit planned?

The best thing about this day? The food and the time spent with family! Try to make it the best you can…and if you don’t have anything planned then it’s a great day to just snuggle in bed and watch some great movie re-runs!

Summer Prints

Summer Prints

I absolutely adore prints, especially in the summer.  It’s a great way to keep cool since you do not want to layer in the summer.  You slip on a great printed shirt or shorts and it adds all the contrast and excitement your outfit needs.  There are a variety of colors, patterns, and items to choose from so you will never be short on choices.

There is a print for every person and taste.  I love prints because you are essentially really wearing a piece of art on your body.  Here are a few sets with some cute and very wearable prints.

Are you into prints? What are you favorite ways to wear them? I always find myself gravitating towards prints rather than solids! I think I might have an obsession!

Summer 2013 Trends

Summer Trends 2013

Summer is finally among us! With this hot weather new fashion choices and trends are available to us.  Upon researching, some of the top trends for this summer are: Bold Stripes, Overalls, Midi Skirts, Lucite, Leather, and Mixed Prints.

I absolutely love midi skirts as most of the skirts in my closet are in fact midi’s.  I find that they are modest and airy.  You don’t have to wear mini’s to get the same breeze.  I also find that I like to be a little more covered as I am considered plus size.  I will all do you a favor and try not to flash you in short skirts.

Summer just screams stripes.  Stripes are nautical and very summery.  Stripes are always thin but I am loving this bold stripe.  Bold stripes are more flattering than their thinner counterparts, plus it’s a great way to be adventurous and bold without stepping out of your comfort zone.  Stripes are always in trends and will continue to be so.

Lucite is very modern and cool.  It reminds me of the matrix or just very nice, modern decor.  I love how they are incorporating it into our wardrobe and adding it to shoes or jewelry.  It adds a great amount of interest to any outfit and I hope to rock it this summer.

Mixed prints have been something that I’ve always wanted to do.  This summer the trick is to pair different sized prints with one another so that it looks intentional.  I’ve found that it’s a bit difficult to do.  You might end up like a clown. I think I will take a pass on this trend and pair my prints with a basic.

I’m a 90s baby, so I vividly remember wearing overalls and even have a 2nd grade photograph with me wearing some.  I shudder just looking at them.  Overalls are not flattering and are not visually appealing.  I can’t believe these are back, I just want to burn all of them.  They are only okay to wear if you are painting or doing some dirty work.  I also find them incredibly annoying when you have to go to the bathroom. Enough said. Take them back.

Leather in the summer? I don’t know if I want to fry.  Yes, I love leather for winter, fall, and sometimes in the spring but in the summer?  I don’t think I want to fry in 90-100 degree weather in the name of fashion.  Maybe a leather bracelet is a great way to incorporate it but never a leather jacket, leather skirt, or pant.

I tried to make outfits to show how you can style them. I just couldn’t bring myself to make one for overalls. Be gone! What do you think of these trends?

OOTD: Print

A few days ago I was overjoyed to see that it was 62 degrees outside after a long, long winter. I went for more of a Fall look but that’s what it felt like! I was only going over to someones house so no need to go crazy!

Dreamy Cream

As you all know, I am a fashion student. For my Historical Analysis of Costume class we had the opportunity to make outfits and put them on mannequins; our theme was emerald. Unfortunately, there weren’t much emerald items so we had to made due with the little we had. I thought it would be fun to just show you all the items we used and the outfits we made. Enjoy!

OOTD: Interview Outfit #2

Yesterday, I went to another internship interview. I was growing tired of the all black ensemble and so I decided it would be best to incorporated some color and style into it.

I was on my way out, so ignore the less than desirable backdrop!

I was wearing: Mint/Seafoam Green Sleeveless Blouse from Target, Black Skinny Pants from Gap, Black Wedges from Payless, Bubble Bib Necklace from Charming Charlie, and Black Blazer from Forever21+.

A closeup of the color of the shirt and the necklace 🙂

I went a little trendy with the color and the necklace underneath the collar. I didn’t show the back but its a hi-low shirt with a pleated waterfall back. I was interviewing in the fashion industry so I thought it was OK.

What do you think of the outfit? What is your go-to interview outfit?I would love to hear!

5 Ways to Spice Up Your Wardrobe

5 Ways to Spice Up Your Wardrobe

Here is an article I wrote for my campus’s branch of Her Campus. Here are five ways you can spice up an already existing outfit!

Black & White

One of my favorite spring trends this year is black and white. I love that we are using staple colors and not a seasonal color such as emerald or that specific tangerine color. It gives the wearer a polished look and there are a variety of ways you can change it up. What is the best thing about this trend is that you probably have black and white in your closet already, so no need to purchase more!

There are many ways to wear it and really, the sky is the limit! What do you think of this versatile and minimalist trend?

Collars are Calling Me!

I was never much of a necklace girl when I was younger but as my love of fashion grew, so did my love of accessories. Well, more than love..more like an obsession.

Collared shirts have also become a basic for me in a way, particularly the sleeveless, flow-y, and roomy ones. I love to add a necklace underneath the collar to add a little interest and pop. It’s a great way to dress up an outfit. I made some outfit sets for an example. There are a variety of colors, finishes, and embellishments on the necklaces which can turn your everyday bland shirt into a wonderful outfit, especially when the weather warms up!

The first and third collar are from BaubleBar  and the second is from Dorothy Perkins, while the fourth is  from Topshop.

They are all very affordable and very cute! There is a style for everyone!
