Sail With Me

I’m yearning for warmer days but winter seems reluctant to go. Luckily, I won’t let that stop me! I decided to bring the sea to my home. Also, I wanted to rock my new auburn hair!13884578780_27cfc260b8_b

Fall-ing for Stripes

Falling for Stripes

It never ceases to amaze me to see stripes nearly every season.  I am a sucker for stripes.  Every time I walk into a store, I find myself gravitating towards a mound of striped shirts.  I am a moth to a light bulb.  They go with pretty much anything and they really are what I consider, a basic.

Summer 2013 Trends

Summer Trends 2013

Summer is finally among us! With this hot weather new fashion choices and trends are available to us.  Upon researching, some of the top trends for this summer are: Bold Stripes, Overalls, Midi Skirts, Lucite, Leather, and Mixed Prints.

I absolutely love midi skirts as most of the skirts in my closet are in fact midi’s.  I find that they are modest and airy.  You don’t have to wear mini’s to get the same breeze.  I also find that I like to be a little more covered as I am considered plus size.  I will all do you a favor and try not to flash you in short skirts.

Summer just screams stripes.  Stripes are nautical and very summery.  Stripes are always thin but I am loving this bold stripe.  Bold stripes are more flattering than their thinner counterparts, plus it’s a great way to be adventurous and bold without stepping out of your comfort zone.  Stripes are always in trends and will continue to be so.

Lucite is very modern and cool.  It reminds me of the matrix or just very nice, modern decor.  I love how they are incorporating it into our wardrobe and adding it to shoes or jewelry.  It adds a great amount of interest to any outfit and I hope to rock it this summer.

Mixed prints have been something that I’ve always wanted to do.  This summer the trick is to pair different sized prints with one another so that it looks intentional.  I’ve found that it’s a bit difficult to do.  You might end up like a clown. I think I will take a pass on this trend and pair my prints with a basic.

I’m a 90s baby, so I vividly remember wearing overalls and even have a 2nd grade photograph with me wearing some.  I shudder just looking at them.  Overalls are not flattering and are not visually appealing.  I can’t believe these are back, I just want to burn all of them.  They are only okay to wear if you are painting or doing some dirty work.  I also find them incredibly annoying when you have to go to the bathroom. Enough said. Take them back.

Leather in the summer? I don’t know if I want to fry.  Yes, I love leather for winter, fall, and sometimes in the spring but in the summer?  I don’t think I want to fry in 90-100 degree weather in the name of fashion.  Maybe a leather bracelet is a great way to incorporate it but never a leather jacket, leather skirt, or pant.

I tried to make outfits to show how you can style them. I just couldn’t bring myself to make one for overalls. Be gone! What do you think of these trends?

Stripes and Florals

Prints have yet to slow down in the trend forecasting; two of the big ones this upcoming spring are the ever present stripe and flower power. I must admit, florals would make me cringe, back in the day. They were oddly reminiscent of old textured sofas with those ugly, dull flowers prints that looked as if they were wilting away in front of your eyes.

But alas! We’ve modernized it and oh, does it look good! Stripes are the prints the remind you of the ocean, of sailors, maybe it is always present when the weather warms up, it has a nautical feel to it! Florals are a great print in the spring when the real ones bloom; you’ll feel like you’ve had a new beginning.

Why not mix them both together? What? Stripes and florals….together? I will forewarn you all now; its not for the faint of heart. It’s for the risk-takers, the ones who are not afraid to stand out, and those who do not mind print. The key to mastering the two prints look is simple, make sure they are in the same color pallet.

As you can see from the top, keep accessories to a minimum as the prints will be doing all the talking for you. A little stud or two wouldn’t hurt though.

Do you think you could rock this look?
