Sometimes you do have to leave the comfort of your bed and go for a stroll in the park. That’s what I decided to do once I emerged from my cavern of a bedroom and out into the real world! After a wonderful–but short day in New York City on Saturday, thanks to the Her Campus National Intercollegiette Conference. I was a bit bummed that I left so early but I was feeling a bit out of the weather and decided rest would be the best!
After my night of hibernation, I decided I would try to be one on friendlier terms with nature!
Today wasn’t a boob-sweat, back-sweat, and all kinds of sweat kind of day, it was actually pleasant. Pleasant enough to wear some jeans without the struggle of trying to cling to your legs and become another layer of skin. The best kind of jeans in the summer? Boyfriend jeans! You’re welcome. Hello Spices! I know school is approaching fast and it is officially back to school shopping time so I wanted to show you the different boots and booties there are out there, somewhere. Fall isn’t fall without all the beautiful boots and ankle booties. They just scream fall to me and I get really excited seeing less flip flops and more heels.
We have barely made it through July but I am already seeing the small tricklings of fall excitement. I love the warm and rich tones that we are being offered this fall. I would say my favorite is the hot pink called Vivacious and the deep blue called Mykonos Blue. The best fall color of all is Turbulence. Grey is such a great neutral and will go well mixing with a few of these colors or just on its own. I just love the colors as it really offers warmth and really does go well with the change of season and leaves. I was at the mall today and the moment I walked into J. Crew I was hit was the fall feeling. The fall collection was warm and offered glam with some gems on sweaters.
Summer is finally among us! With this hot weather new fashion choices and trends are available to us. Upon researching, some of the top trends for this summer are: Bold Stripes, Overalls, Midi Skirts, Lucite, Leather, and Mixed Prints.
I absolutely love midi skirts as most of the skirts in my closet are in fact midi’s. I find that they are modest and airy. You don’t have to wear mini’s to get the same breeze. I also find that I like to be a little more covered as I am considered plus size. I will all do you a favor and try not to flash you in short skirts.
Summer just screams stripes. Stripes are nautical and very summery. Stripes are always thin but I am loving this bold stripe. Bold stripes are more flattering than their thinner counterparts, plus it’s a great way to be adventurous and bold without stepping out of your comfort zone. Stripes are always in trends and will continue to be so.
Lucite is very modern and cool. It reminds me of the matrix or just very nice, modern decor. I love how they are incorporating it into our wardrobe and adding it to shoes or jewelry. It adds a great amount of interest to any outfit and I hope to rock it this summer.
Mixed prints have been something that I’ve always wanted to do. This summer the trick is to pair different sized prints with one another so that it looks intentional. I’ve found that it’s a bit difficult to do. You might end up like a clown. I think I will take a pass on this trend and pair my prints with a basic.
I’m a 90s baby, so I vividly remember wearing overalls and even have a 2nd grade photograph with me wearing some. I shudder just looking at them. Overalls are not flattering and are not visually appealing. I can’t believe these are back, I just want to burn all of them. They are only okay to wear if you are painting or doing some dirty work. I also find them incredibly annoying when you have to go to the bathroom. Enough said. Take them back.
Leather in the summer? I don’t know if I want to fry. Yes, I love leather for winter, fall, and sometimes in the spring but in the summer? I don’t think I want to fry in 90-100 degree weather in the name of fashion. Maybe a leather bracelet is a great way to incorporate it but never a leather jacket, leather skirt, or pant.
I tried to make outfits to show how you can style them. I just couldn’t bring myself to make one for overalls. Be gone! What do you think of these trends?
Spring is in full swing! The weather is finally bearable and breezy and not frigid and frozen. When I was a younger girl, I despised the color pink, it was too girly for me. Now that I am big and grown, I absolutely love it. It can be soft or shocking, it adds a great pop of color to any outfit, and honestly it’s very springy. My favorite way of wearing pink is with a contrasting color or in a different shade of pink. I gathered some cute pink things. My absolute faves are the Jacquard Shorts from Gap and the strappy pink dress from Zara. They can both be dressed up or down, which leads it to be versatile and honestly, a 2-in-1 deal.
Pink is also the perfect color to transition into summer with. I don’t know why I had despised it so much! I still don’t have much pink in my wardrobe, but I am hoping to change that! Do you like pink for spring and summer? How do you wear your pink? Needless to say, I am feeling a little tickled pink.
Fabrics with a texture are one of my favorite things in the world. Boucle, Tweed, you name it. But as far as prints I would have to put Tartan and Plaid on the top of my list. It’s a classic and always will be. They are aesthetically pleasing to the eye.
When I found out that plaid was coming back full-force in pre-fall, I couldn’t be happier. I could see this going into Fall and Winter as well. They are cozy looking and you could wear it with a variety of colors depending on the color of the plaid itself.
My personal favorites are the Gucci skirt and this Chanel ensemble. The Gucci skirt is a neutral color with a little flounce and peplum on the top, which is also signaling that that trend is here to stay. While the Chanel ensemble, doesn’t have any plaid. I absolutely adore the textures of the dress and jacket. I sense that designers may have been influenced by Europe this autumn and winter; which I obsess over.
What do you think of textures and prints like tweed and plaid?
